Located 35 miles south of Blue Ridge in Jasper, Georgia, Pickens
Technical Institute has a 1997
enrollment of 765, with 297 male and 468 female students. Pickens Tech
maintains a close relationship
with the business and industrial community to keep in step with the
latest operating equipment and the
skills needed to meet the requirements of each industry.
Because of the HOPE Grant that is funded by the Georgia Lottery,
students enrolled in any diploma or
certificate program at Pickens Tech can come to school FREE. The
Director of Financial Aid assists
students in finding ways to finance their education through: HOPE
Grants, Pell Grants, Georgia Students
Incentive Grants, Veteran Benefits, Work Study programs, Job Training
Partnership Act, and
Post secondary Options.
Industry specific training courses may be customized to meet a
company's specific training needs and
may be offered at the company location or at the Pickens Tech campus.
Courses may be skill oriented
such as welding, blueprint reading, computerized drafting, etc. Courses
may include productivity and
supervisory training, and other programs which assist companies
implementing Word Class
Specialized training courses, such as Programmable Logic Controllers,
hydraulics and pneumatics, and safety training are also available.
Employers with training needs in a
specific area may send employees to existing courses on campus day or
evening. These employees
may take a specific job related portion of a curriculum.
The diploma program is divided into four areas: Business and Computer,
Trade, Technical, and Health
